John McIntirePrivate Sector
John McIntire has been dedicated to various non-profit and policy initiatives related to his native Cuba since 2004. He was a co-founder and is the chairman of the Cuba Emprende Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization which supports the largest entrepreneur training program on the island. Since 2012, the Foundation, funded by the diaspora, has supported small business training programs which have graduated 12,000+ entrepreneurs, supported 6,000+ small businesses and hosted networking events attended by 100,000+ Cubans. John is a member of the executive committee of the Cuba Study Group and is chair of the Cuba Working Group of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, where he is also a director and chair of the finance committee. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a director of the Tinker Foundation and a member of the Columbia University Cuba Seminar. John had a 25-year career as an international investment banker in New York and London. He retired in 2004 as a partner of Goldman, Sachs & Co, where he spent 12 years focused on Latin America, including being Goldman’s CEO for that region. Since then, he has been an active investor in and advisor to early-stage, tech-enabled companies in Latin America, working with management teams to raise over $200 million in venture capital. He currently serves on the boards of Open Education Holdings Inc and Exitoweb Inc (“Escala”), as well as advising several family-owned businesses in the Miami area. John is also an advisor to Lumos Capital Partners. John graduated from Princeton University (1979) with an A.B. in Economics.
